Mission
When New Mexicans see a red stripe on a vehicle or piece of equipment, they most likely think of Armstrong Construction Company (ACC). The “Red Stripe” has been a distinction in the construction industry since 1922.
ACC was born when father and son G. B. and Gayle Armstrong formed a partnership called Armstrong & Armstrong. The main concentration of the company at this time was on the emerging heavy highway markets in New Mexico. The company flourished during these years.
After twenty years in the industry, Armstrong & Armstrong made a decision to form a company that specifically concentrated on the local construction needs in the growing Roswell market. In 1947, management formed Armstrong Construction Company. B. B. Armstrong, son of Gayle, assumed management of the business in 1950.
Together, A & A and ACC built most of the streets and subdivisions in the Roswell area, as well as many major highways throughout the state. During the 1950s and 1960s, the firm continued to grow, as it participated in the construction of New Mexico’s 1,000-mile interstate highway system. In 1987, Bill Armstrong, Jr. assumed the reins of ACC.
Today, Armstrong Construction Company is predominately a highway and paving contracting firm working throughout New Mexico, with particular emphasis in Southeastern New Mexico. ACC has permanent plants for hot mix paving operations located in both Chaves and Lea Counties.
The future remains bright for Armstrong Construction Company. With a strong and vibrant management team in place and the committment to excellence and quality workmanship, the “red stripe” on the front of all company vehicles remains a distinction of construction progress recognized for eight decades.
